Janel Coleman LMSW

Psychotherapist

You deserve a life of abundance.

Do you struggle to be your full authentic self? Perhaps you feel unheard, unseen or like you must hide certain parts of yourself in order to be accepted by others.

Maintaining healthy relationships, achieving life goals, and accessing joy can feel like an uphill battle in an oppressive world.

As a Black woman, I am passionate about providing trauma informed therapy to BIPOC women and femmes.

I believe that therapy can be a bridge that connects our individual healing with the collective care of community.

With compassion, empathy, and non-judgment, I will work with you to nurture the belief that you can not only survive but also thrive in this world. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to book a complimentary consultation with me today.

  • Have you been in talk therapy, but feel ready for a different approach? As an EMDR-trained therapist, I use evidence-based methods to help you process trauma, anxiety, depression, and painful life experiences. EMDR supports deep healing and transformation, so that you are able to live the life you deserve.

  • Whether you're navigating postpartum depression or anxiety, adjusting to the demands of new motherhood, or coping with shifting relationships, I’m here to support you through this transition. As a trained full-spectrum doula, I understand the complexities of the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. Therapy offers a space to explore your evolving identity, build supportive tools to manage anxiety and depression, and heal from any challenges during the pregnancy or postpartum experience.

  • Sex and sexuality are often overlooked in therapy, but they’re integral parts of who we are. With a background as a holistic health educator and a specialization in sexual health and education, I bring a knowledgeable, affirming approach to this work. As an LGBTQIA+ and kink-affirming therapist, I aim to create a safe space for you to explore your full self. I support clients looking to heal from sexual trauma while navigating dating and relationships. Together, we can examine how sexuality has shaped your past, how it’s present in your life now, and how it influences your relationship with yourself and others.

  • I support BIPOC clients who are navigating the pressure to succeed while healing from burnout and perfectionism. In a high-demand city, it can often feel like you’re never doing enough. Maybe you’re the only person of color in your workplace, an entrepreneur, or the first in your family on your current path.Together, we’ll explore your relationship with high achievement, the influence of family and culture, and your current values. Our work will focus on building sustainable tools and perspectives rooted in self-compassion and holistic care.

  • The best part of the work for me is supporting a client’s journey of self-discovery. It is a beautiful experience to witness clients improve their self-advocacy skills and apply their new perspectives to life’s challenges. I find much value in knowing that our work on an individual level can have a profound impact on the community level.

  • If you are new to therapy, first, I want to acknowledge your bravery in considering this level of support. You can be on the fence for numerous reasons. I am here to provide a confidential and compassionate space to discuss your concerns. Since therapy is not one size fits all, we can work together to determine what approach will best support your goals. Therapy can be a great way to address a multitude of life and relationship challenges. It can empower you to make sustainable perspective and behavioral shifts. Therapy can lead you towards achieving your definition of success and feeling a sense of peace.

  • I am passionate about improving access to comprehensive and inclusive health education. From a young age, I have been curious about the human body and what it means to be healthy and well. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation and undervaluing of this access within our education and medical systems. My dedication to and practice of health education support my ability to provide holistic mental health support for my clients. I have seen how empowered people can become when they know more about their bodies.
